  • At the Congratulations You Passed screen, close the internet window (tab) that displays the name of the course. Instructions and screen shots are available at the bottom of the Continuing Education page on PDA's website.
  • The certificate will be saved in your Learning Center. To access your Learning Center, go to www.padental.org/onlinece. Sign in with your username and password. Click Go To Your Learning Center. Click the word Completed to see the list of courses you completed. Click View Certificate.

DEA MATE Act Training -- The Opioid Epidemic, Pain Efficacy and Pain Control in Dentistry - Both unethical promotion and rampant over prescribing of opioids have contributed to current public health emergency we face in the United States. This lecture explains the unique risks associated with opioid use and outlines strategies for opioid-sparing analgesia in dental practice. And identifies effective pain relief alternatives based on individual patient characteristics.
Upon completion of this lecture, participants should be able to:  

    • Review the causes for and consequences of the current opioid epidemic in the U.S.
    • Explain the relative pain relief effectiveness of non-opioid and opioid agents in acute pain.
    • Discuss the benefits and risks of specific pain control regimens for effective dental analgesia.

    Course fulfills Pennsylvania's Act 124 CE requirement for license renewal and the credits cound toward the one-time DEA MATE Act CE requirement.
