presented by Scott M. Peters, DDS, Associate Professor, Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology, Geisinger Health System

8:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. 3 CE credits

Course Description:
This three-hour session will review the diagnosis and management of some of the more commonly encountered oral mucosal and radiographic pathologies in clinical practice. The first hour of the course will review oral precancerous lesions, such as leukoplakia, erythropkakia, proliferative verrucous leukoplakia, and actinic cheilitis, among other entities. In addition, different clinical presentations of oral cancer will be discussed. The second hour of the course will focus on oral manifestations of infectious pathologies (viral, fungal, bacterial) and autoimmune conditions (lichen planus, pemphigoid, pemphigus), as well as conditions that may be confused with these entities, such as geographic tongue, coated tongue, oral manifestations of xerostomia, and burning mouth syndrome. The final portion of the course will discuss commonly encountered radiographic lesions in everyday clinical practice. For each entity, the path to diagnosis will be explained, and, when applicable, biopsy site selection techniques will be reviewed. The session also will focus on different topical and systemic medications that can be used in management of some of these conditions.

At the conclusion of this presentation, participants should be able to:

  • Diagnose oral mucosal and radiographic pathologies frequently encountered in clinical practice.
  • Discuss the different topical and systemic therapies available for management of these conditions.
  • Describe the role of biopsy in diagnosis and identify appropriate biopsy sites for different conditions.

Secure Your Practice, Protect Your Patients: Mastering Cybersecurity and HIPAA Compliance through Technology
presented by Dave Fidanza, Chief Operating Officer of iCoreConnect

1:00 – 2:30 p.m. 1.5 CE credits

Course Description:
Think back—did dental school really prepare you for today’s cybersecurity challenges? Probably not. Yet understanding cyber risks and mastering HIPAA compliance are as vital to safeguarding your practice as brushing is to preventing cavities.

Cybersecurity is about much more than data protection. It’s the foundation for securing your practice, preserving your reputation, and earning patient trust. The stakes are high: 65% of patients lose trust in organizations after a data breach, and 80% will take their business elsewhere. A single cyberattack could cost your practice more than just money—it could cost you your future.

And then there’s HIPAA. This essential but complex law mandates strict safeguards for private healthcare data. But, let’s be honest, HIPAA wasn’t written with the realities of running a busy dental practice in mind. Trying to translate dense regulations into actionable steps—while managing a practice—can feel like an impossible balancing act.

That’s where this course comes in. We’ll demystify HIPAA, identify the critical cybersecurity threats facing dental practices, and show you practical, tech-savvy solutions to protect your patients, your practice, and your peace of mind. Whether you’re a tech novice or a compliance pro, you’ll be equipped with tools to build a robust defense against cyberattacks—and stay ahead in a rapidly evolving risk landscape.

Because in today’s world, keeping your practice safe isn’t optional—it’s essential.

Upon completion of the course, the participant can expect to learn:

  • The range and risks of cyberattacks.
  • The background and basic requirements of HIPAA.
  • The best actions and practices to achieve compliance and security.
  • The role of technology and AI in relation to cybersecurity and HIPAA compliance.
